About Us

Me and my smokin hot wife

Growing up in the south you are always surrounded by food no matter the occasion. Whether it is a birthday, funeral, wedding, church event, some random Tuesday.... you get the idea. We like to eat!

My name is Brandon Russell and I have always liked to cook but it was not until about a year ago that I started to branch out and find new recipes. Through this I also discovered new ways to cook. My wife has been very supportive and honest with me about the food I have cooked. So if I post something she told me she liked it (and she is a picky eater).

This page is my way of giving back. I believe in paying it forward and there have been many people that have done nice things for me. If some weird way one of my meals impacts a life or if someone’s taste buds start having a party then I have done my job.

Join me as I bring you a new meal every week along with cool articles and resources for you to look like a pro in the kitchen.

Enjoy
Brandon

When I was growing up in the ‘burbs, my mom had a stable of 5 or 6 recipes that were on constant repeat for about 19 years, and I didn’t like ANY of them. As a result, she labeled me a picky eater and that is what I believed about myself pretty much my whole life. As an adult, I started eating at places other than Mom’s kitchen table. What I discovered
is that I LOVE food. I just didn’t realize it until I started treating eating out as an adventure and my own kitchen as a laboratory.

Over the past several years, I have been someone who worked a lot, and dinner was just one more thing on the To Do list. I ate pretty much whatever was fast, cheap and easy; however, in 2009, I began having another food revolution. It started with Barbara Kingsolver’s book “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle”. Kingsolver’s manifesto seemed to be all about eating local foods and being more self-sufficient when it came to feeding yourself and your family. I began to think about food in a brand new way.

Even more recently, as this workaholic from the ‘burbs moved to rural Tennessee, I began to embrace what is known as the Slow Food Movement. Dictionary.com describes slow food as “food that has been prepared with care, using high-quality local and seasonal ingredients”. Brandon has graciously given me a platform here at the Network Fork to share my enthusiasm for Slow Food.

Whether it is canning, baking bread or making your own cheese, it really isn’t as hard as you think. It may involve a bit more time in some cases (although it may surprise you to know that making homemade mozzarella only takes about 30 minutes), but I think you may find that it will create a deeper gratitude in your spirit about where your food comes from and those that prepare it.

I look forward to discussing all this and more with you in future posts here at the Network Fork.

Happy Eating!

Sarah
